About this tool

Use Unit converter with confidence.

This converter covers common metric, US customary and Imperial units for length, mass, temperature, volume, area, speed and digital storage. Labels distinguish units that share familiar names but represent different quantities.

Conversions use fixed published relationships between units and run instantly in the browser. Rounded display values are convenient for everyday work; retain appropriate precision and significant figures for technical calculations.

Common uses

International instructions

Translate dimensions, weights and temperatures for readers using a different measurement system.

Recipes and liquid volumes

Convert litres and millilitres alongside clearly identified US and Imperial liquid measures.

Storage comparisons

Compare decimal gigabytes with binary gibibytes instead of treating their labels as interchangeable.

Practical tips

Check US versus Imperial volume

A US gallon and an Imperial gallon are different sizes, as are their pints and fluid ounces.

Keep enough precision

Do not round an intermediate conversion more aggressively than the final task permits.

Match the unit to the claim

Mass and force are different physical quantities even though everyday language often calls both weight.

Questions about Unit converter

Is an Imperial gallon the same as a US gallon?

No. An Imperial gallon is exactly 4.54609 litres, while a US liquid gallon is exactly 3.785411784 litres.

Why are GB and GiB different?

A decimal gigabyte is 1,000,000,000 bytes. A binary gibibyte is 1,073,741,824 bytes. The converter labels both explicitly.

How are temperature units converted?

Temperature uses an offset as well as a scale, so Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin require formulas rather than a single multiplication factor.
